Event Description

Meet and hear from three local media makers featured in the new book, "Black Media in Minnesota: Tradition, Practice, & Vision." Special guest authors are Henry Banks, Duluth School Board Member & People of Color radio show Host; Georgia Fort, Journalist & Host of Here’s the Truth; and Tracey Williams-Dillard, CEO of MN Spokesman Recorder. Facilitated by Azariah Baker, In Black Ink & Macalester College Student.

Black Media in Minnesota: Tradition, Practice & Vision (In Black Ink, 2024) is a collection of essays by 12 local MN media makers edited by Al McFarlane. This book brilliantly demonstrates that Black media has sustained a two-pronged imperative: 1) to inform and 2) to advocate for African Americans. Macalester College student Azariah Baker will moderate a discussion with several contributors to the anthology.

This event is hosted by In Black Ink, a publisher dedicated to creating spaces where the stories and voices of people of African heritage are celebrated, documented, and archived through publications, professional development training opportunities, and public presentations.
